The American Muslim Community Between Extremism, Bigotry, and IslamophobiaIn light of recent events (San Bernardino, Paris, Turkey, Lebanon, etc.), this session is a step toward the protection of the American Muslim community against two interlinked sources of threats facing it; the wave of extremism invading the world and the growing provocative Islamophobic rhetoric pushing authorities to tighten the security grip over American Muslims. How should the local Muslim communities react to potential recruitment to extremism and the provocative actions from non-Muslim fanatic groups enticed by the Islamophobic rhetoric? What role should the National Muslim organizations and their coordinating council (USCMO) do to safeguard the civil rights and liberties of American Muslims?
